I feel like I have been living in "invitation land" designing for weddings, showers and such. I think Its so fun to incorporate your theme as much as you can.

I'm DYING over this invite. I mentioned in my previous post I get to photograph my cousins wedding in cape cod soon. Well check out her invite. She and my other cousin Carter designed this. *Side note, my family is full of creative geniuses. Like seriously its insane. Ok anyway, they created this invite and I Love it! Marrissa and her fiance are seriously into theater, as in, Nicholas was on Broadway. They meet doing theater, so naturally the wedding should be centered around that. right? :)

Did I mention the live in time square. magical.

The invite is created to be their own play "Married Go-Round" I love the all the wording and details.

Wedding season is on, and Im so excited for my first 2 of the season! My Brother and my Cousin. Im a lucky gal because both of these wedding are going to be insane! It has been crazy trying to take everyones bridal, engagement, and wedding photos in this silly weather!

I have been wanting to share these, and now the invites are sent I can!

River is the youngest in our family and is marring the sweetest girl ever Jaycee. They have such a darling relationship, they are so alike and have NEVER got into a big fight?! They have been dating at least 3 years (not sure exactly) and are both so mellow who knows if they will ever fight.

And did you know I don't have a sister? :( So you can imagine how thrilled I am to have a girl around!

Well Hello :) Yes I know I went against blogger rules and didn't post all our Christmas details and such. But I was taking a very much needed break to be a mom. I have so many fun photo shoots to show you from the last couple months. I will get right on that :)

I thought this was a great place to start because a huge handful of my emails are about my lipstick. Every time I appear on Studio 5 I get a slew of email about lipstick :)

This is also perfect timing because this week, Im hosting a favorite things party where my and a few of my girlfriends exchange our favorite things. . . . So I will post those also. . after the party :) Now I have so many makeup pics I love like foundations, lip glosses, brushes But these are the MUST HAVES!

Model in a bottle

First lets start with something that has been with me for years. In 2005 this was featured on oprah. I order my first bottle then, and I have loved it ever sense! You just spray this on after your makeup is done and it sets it!

another product that keeps your makeup in place. . .

Paint pot in painterly by mac. This keeps your eye makeup on, and boy does it work! I love it because it goes on so creamy!

Jet set Waterproof eyeliner in Bronze by smashbox. LOVE this! Its gel based and you use a angle brush to apply. It goes on so smooth and does not smudge! It comes in a lot of great colors.

High beam by benefit This is the best highlighter. It gives you a yummy glow. I use it on my cheek bones. mmm

Lipstick- For me Lipstick is my christmas. I love it! No makeup is more exciting. These are my top 3 combos all by mac

Girls weekend and Beehive Bazaar

I had a wonderful weekend! It started off with dinner at La Jolla Groves. Anyone who serves me diet coke like that deserves a star :)

*I am so lucky to not only have the most beautiful friends ever, but they are also so kind, loving and would do anything for me. . . and often do!

The lights were so so beautiful at the shops at Riverwoods! Then off to Beehive Bazaar for some wild shopping. Seriously have you been on opening night? It is insane. As in . . . so many people you cant move, completely hot everyone is sweating, then you wait in line for a hour or so to pay. And thats why I go opening night every year ;) Because with all the hotness, its a blast! Plus I got to meet lots of you :)

Oh ya- then after this night I got influenza. . . . and have been in bed for 4 days. Not cool

Love me some Thanksgiving!

No! This weekend can't end. Thanksgiving was wonderful! I loved having all the special people I love so much at my home to celebrate. While I forgot to get all those great close up shots of decor, party favors, fabulous food, and the tablescapes I did get just the perfect mood shots :) My family is full of it! I died laughing looking through these. Apparently I can not sneak a photo without ~~someone~~ pretty much everyone pulling a face :)

After so much food, we were all in that "way to full daze" and cuddled up for some elf, and naps!

Yummy recipe!

Yesterday on the show I got to do a little cooking segment about my favorite holiday appetizer. The kitchen was a fun change and Brooke and Darrin always make it a blast!

Now go make this dip. It is so yum!

Ingredients:
8 oz. sour cream
8 oz. cream cheese
16 oz. cheddar cheese, grated (sharp or mild)
4 oz. chopped green chilies
Green onion (suit your own taste)
1 c. chopped ham
1/2 pound chopped bacon
1 round bread loaf, hollowed out

Method:
Mix first seven ingredients together and put into the hollowed out bread loaf. Bake at 350 degrees uncovered for one hour. Serve with leftover bread or chips

I have had several requests about buying this print of the beautiful Salt Lake City temple. It's really been humbling, so thank you! This photo was taken for KSL's new show Mormon Times which airs on Sunday mornings at 10:00. I tried so many angles and I wasn't dying over any of the shots. At then end it all fell into place, and was such a neat experience. The sun started shining though and it felt much more magical, just as it should be. So Im making this print available for purchase. Meet Tyke. This guy was my best friend starting in 7th grade. He does not have a mean bone in his body and is the most caring guy around. Not to mention he is totally funny, and super laid back! We had so much fun and were dorks everyday after school. I liked his best friend and he liked mine, He gave me a dog which we still have (she is getting so old!) then he moved away for highschool- rude. Im just grateful we stayed in touch and he married such a darling, sweet girl Megan.

It was so fun to catch up and get to know his little guys! Theses kids are soooo cute and they couldn't have been better for photos!

Let me tell you a short story . . .

One day, 2 photographer friends got talking and decided they just couldn't find any great Christmas Cards to use for their clients, or for themselves! With the card season approaching, they started to panic knowing the Christmas rush would be awfully overwhelming without some ready to go card templates! Well. . . . after snuggling their 6 combined children to bed, they drove far and wide to get together and see what they could come up with. Several hours, two pumpkin pie shakes, and 8 sets of cards later... 3 am design was born.

And we are SO dang excited about it!! Me and Chels are a great team and I think we came up with some stuff you will really love! You can change all the colors and text on each card to fit you taste. We obviously LOVE the bright, happy colors :) We feel like we made options for everyone. You can buy the whole set to use for your clients, or just one card for yourself! If you don't own photoshop, no worries! Purchase the flattened jpeg file, send us your picture & we will make it for you & send you the file to print. The great part about a double sided designed card is it can be used for eight cards....or 16 if you are only printing single sided! Double bonus!

How to look thinner in photos!

Who want's to learn? Hope these tips help:)

Stretch it Out
When posing on the ground, make sure to stretch out your legs. This will elongate your body, making it so you're not cut off at the knees.

Take it to the Edge
Always sit on the edge of the chair. Your posture will look much better and remember - the closest body part to the camera always looks the largest.

Your Best Side
Turn sideways to the camera, planting one foot in front of the other. Point your toe to the camera and place all your weight on your back foot. This allows you to look thinner by centering your weight away from the camera. (This is a great trick the celebs use!)

Look Up
When taking a photo it's important that your photographer does not snap the picture from below. This adds another 20-50 pounds to the 10 pounds automatically and annoying added by the camera. So bend down so they can get a great angle from up top!

Be Aware
Be aware! Pull head slightly forward, and tip chip down to minimize any appearance of a double chin. Hold your arms slightly away from your body. This keeps upper arm flab from flattening out.

I have talked about this great secret place to shop before, but today on zulily have a killer deal that would work great for photos! Petti skirts have been quite popular in photos and these are great because they are only $13 :) I would go for these softer colors that you could pair up with a nice leopard cardigan to richen up the look. Sometimes you need to be careful with the bold contrasting colors in petti skirts because it can look cheesey cheapen the look :) Hurry and get them they sell out fast!

You will love this spot. This is where I get almost all my girls designer labels. They often sell lola et moi, and twirls and twigs. They are some of my favs!

Remember this post? I get to tell you now :) I got a call from the producer of this new show asking me to photograph the logo and images for the segments. I was totally excited for the opportuinity. I love the change of pace doing comerical shots. I just got the finished product emailed back to me and I am so happy with how it all came together! In the opening of the show, the logo is animated, the globe turnes, and it even has twinkles:) Here is a litlle info about the show:

You know the hilarious, super crafty, vinyl chick with the most amazing blog that you all love, and we love to copy? :) Well, her family is so sweet and her kids rock…. really! They totally behaved and listened soooo well! Yaay! That never happens :)

A "Rockin" family!

Meet my cousin Adri Jade. This is that cousin I always couldn't wait to see. We laughed til we cried. . . and still do. She is my daily taco stand partner, we have weekly nail painting dates (sometimes over the phone). And I truly Love her! Enter husband- Michael. Wow. I don't know what to even say about him besides I love him. He is the nicest guy I have ever met. Do not let his 6'3 tough guy look fool you, his eyes twinkle like no other. My children are obsessed with him and I'm so happy my bestie cousin found him!

Shoots like this make me so happy I do what I do! The kind of shoot that makes me stay up all night editing, the kind that makes me emotional. I can feel their strong, serious, very playful love through these photos, and I can feel their sweet baby's presence. Adri- Get that baby Girl here! We have photos, dressup, cuddles, giggles, and french braids to get to!

Remember my Top 10 color wall segment? Well its back! Next week :) Y'all ate it up and after so many great emails we decided to do part 2. I thought I would give you a peak of a few of the walls over the next few days.

This last weekend I tried to get some photos of the babes at the fair. This is the only one that kind of worked

During our family shoot we got great ones of Navi but didn't try with the little ones. . they were over it.

I was so frustrated with Gray that I didn't even give sweet Anns a chance. . . . maybe next year :)

P.S Gray will not let go of this sword. ever. Yes, he sleeps with it. Just wait till you see the night costume he lives in, literally. My neighbors know all about it

Im going to try at least once a week to celebrate my space on here.

I have wanted striped candles on here forever and have loved these which come in all colors and are beautiful! . . . . problem- $24 a pair. Not happening. So I had to improvise. It all happened when I opened the junk door and found some wonderful yellow tape. Perfect!

I love the theme of celebrate! It's a very important concept to remember and embrace in our daily lives. I thought of a few things we don't take time to celebrate enough - the challenge is to do so!

Celebrate Yourself

This is one thing we never do. As women, we don't get a lot of time to feel pretty and take time out for ourselves. We need to do this more often and document it. You will feel so happy you did! Having a great picture of yourself is not only useful for our businesses and blogs - it is also an important thing for our children to have, in years to come.

Celebrate your Spouse

I can't tell you how many times I have been on a family photo shoot, and I tell the parents it's "their turn" - and the couple visibly feels awkward! We need to take photos with our spouse, and often. Celebrate your love, and most importantly hang of photo of just you two, in your home for your children to see.

Celebrate Your Space

We spend so much time making memories and decoration our house "just perfect," we also need to take time to celebrate the work we have put into it. Document your space. It will be so fun to look back on all the different looks your home had through the years!

Celebrate Your Spirit

I think this is the key to a great family photo - to any photo! Don't just bring great clothing and a smile to a shoot, but bring a vision that represents your family. Show who you are, your spirit! Get dreaming up your next photo shoot - make it something to celebrate. I can't wait to see!

Yaay Its finally my turn for photos. Is it ok to say I Love them?!

The thing is I had a vision in my head and knew it wouldn't come out exactly how I imagined
(because of crazy kids you can't make freeze) But It did! Just like in my head.

I have this friend Chelsea (remember HERE, HERE and HERE, thanks to her those ideas in my head came to life perfectly.

She has a great eye and knows me so, so well!

I stayed up all night editing them not giving her a chance to show me all the edited ones first :)

1- L Oreal Natures Therapy Mega Moisture Nurturing Creme. I use this once a week or whenever my hair feels like it needs a little extra. Because its just a moisturizer you can use this everyday. You will Love how silky it is!

2- Batiste Blush Dry Shampoo. This is a MUST BUY! Just spray in it your roots and shake/comb. It gets rid of the oils and gives your hair a fresh smell. Just like washing! This will help you go three one ;) day without a wash

3- Out The Door Fast Drying Top Coat. Love this top coat! Its high gloss and will leave your color on for days longer. Did I mention its fast drying, a must

4- ion Brilliance Shine Spray. Its a toss up between this and the dry shampoo as my favorite. You will love this! Just be very careful not to get crazy in the root area or it will leave you looking oily. I just spray half way down and pull through. It gives you shine and takes care of the frizz

5-Beyond The Zone Frozen Stiff Ultimate Hold Hairspray. I love this because its glossy, has a strong hold, but your hair still moves after spraying like a wild woman :)

Yes, totally darling right? The best part is were related! Meet the in-laws :) This is Nate's sister and her adorable family. Our oldest kids are days apart and best friends forever. They even have a super special secret handshake they do every time they see each other
(It involves slapping hands, picking each other up, and bum bumps)

Even though they moved out of state we feel lucky to see them often!

The sprinklers turned on during the shoot. Now I'm soooo happy they did. Totally worked in our favor!

Now if you don't have a super sassy darling girl, get one fast! She will add some great movement to your photo :)

Back-to-School photos

Back-to-school is a great time to catch some yearly photos of your children. I like to focus on what they look like, and what they love, that year. Here are some ideas and tips to keep on hand as you prepare for those annual back-to-school snapshots:

Sign Me Up!

Each year have your child hand write, on a sign, the grade they will be in that year. This is a fun way to see how their handwriting has advanced year to year, as well as knowing exactly what year that photo was taken. Put them all next to each other in a book when they graduate for a happy gift!

Favorite Things

In my photography business, I always try to take a "favorite thing" photo of each client - a certain toy, a favorite doll, a new hobby. I think this would be a great thing to do every year - a photo to remember what that child's favorite thing, or interest, was that year.

Get Focused

Details are always important when taking photos. Get in close to capture those details that make that year/age special. It may be their missing teeth, long flowing locks, huge backpack or anything that makes them "them" that year. Also capture all of the fun clothing trends (so we can look back and laugh!).

Get in the Scene

Another fun tradition is to always take your child's photo in front of school the school they are attending that year. This is a little detail that will be so fun to have later on in life. While you're there, explore for other great photo backgrounds. Schools are often a backdrop hot spot! Great old brick, fun bright colored doors, and, believe it or not, a dumpster makes for a great background with its bright coloring and textured sides (just be sure to get up close!).

This is something we have been working a lot on the last couple of months and I'm so excited to say they are officially out and selling like crazy!

Mollies are the perfect fun fashion statement to layer and add spunk to any outfit. Now we all love our cotton layering tees and wear them with everything, we now have something for the bottom! They are perfect when you need to add a few inches to your skirt. These are also so nice just to feel comfortable in a skirt when your running around chasing kids, and plus they are adorable!

My Top Ten Color Wall's

These are hidden shots of color - tucked behind alleys, up narrow side streets, even inside tunnels. When scouting out a good location, a photographer's eye is naturally drawn toward color. But I also like to look for interest - texture and even pattern. When you find a good wall, work it - with different angles, different wardrobe options, different lighting. Here are a few of my favorite "Utah color wall" locations.

You will find this amazing wall tucked away behind the Papa Murphy's on Main Street. It speaks loud volumes with its bold primary colors with a subtle hint of vintage coloring. Now this is something you could design a room around!

Taqueria La Costa Burrito, 4700 West 5800 North, Tremonton
I don't only love this wall because of its vibrant red color, but you just can't find a pattern wall everywhere. A black outfit will steal the show here!

Bear River City

This charming building is perfect for a great vintage look. The front offers strong pillars and an old fashion sign, then head on over to the side for some bright colorful brick.

Bright, Royal Blue Wall

Just off the 1-15 Exit, West Side Frontage Road, Lehi (can see it from the freeway)
This wall makes me happy with the perfect tone or orange mixed with the soft blue. Don't stress the wardrobe, everyone will just be checking out the wall!

St. George offers us such a beautiful landscape. Go over to the golf course snap some killer photos in the light shining tunnel and don't forget to hop on the black and red rock for another great photo.

Five Sense Photography

Too often, as busy moms, we miss the "real moments." Our camera comes out when there is something noteworthy or significant happening - but not necessarily when there is something memorable happening. Let this be the summer you capture more than just photos - capture feelings. Make it a priority to document those everyday moments that make up our families - that make up our lives. An easy way to do this is to look for opportunities to participate in "five sense photography." Take pictures of images that represent the five senses: see, smell, touch, hear and taste. More than just photographing events or even people, photograph the feelings (and never-to-forget memories!) that come with them.
